Local celebrities joined Amazon employees at fun run and walk events across Europe this month.

Former professional boxer, Axel Schulz, lead a warm up for delivery station employees in Berlin/Brandenburg for their 2.8 km charity run at Lake Tegel. Maryse Vandepitte, mayor of Boves, the town in which the French event took place, and Alain Gest, president of the metropolis of Amiens, were on hand to encourage the runners on their route around the Boves lakes.

The initiatives were hosted to raise money for local causes in a fun way that promotes health and fitness among Amazon employees. Each site had a different theme for their fun run, which saw employees wearing neon tutus and other costumes.

Amazon donated money for every kilometer run or walked, raising over €40,000 for five local charities. Each site selected local charities with a different cause.

In Germany, we donated €18,000 to Die Arche, a charity supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds. In France, we presented €10,000 to S’time in Amiens, a charity supporting cancer survivors in their recovery. The site in Spain donated €5,000 each to San Fernando´s Athletics School for people with disabilities, Asociación Adactiv who support children with disabilities, and Astea Henares who work with people on the Autistic spectrum.

Ronan Bolé, Amazon France Logistics Director, said: “The safety, health and wellbeing of our employees is our number one priority at Amazon. That’s always been the case, and after such a difficult year of lockdowns, we wanted to do something to promote fun and fitness in the community. This was a terrific way to help local charities while giving our people a safe and healthy way to connect with their colleagues.”

Cristina, representative from Asociación Adactiv said: "With this great help we would like to renew some of the materials we have in the rooms where we provide therapy for our children, who excel every day, as well as doing something fun to reward their efforts".

Axel Schulz, former professional boxer, said: "Numerous employees from four Amazon distribution centers in Berlin/Brandenburg ran together for a good cause. This great charity campaign raised an incredible €18,000. Many thanks to everyone who showed such great commitment for the kids! Thank you, Amazon!"

“It was great to run and have fun with the people I work with,” said Julian Maldonado, an employee at Amazon’s delivery station in Berlin. “Running is a passion of mine and so is supporting important causes, so it was a real pleasure to participate in this event today.”
