Germany – September 17, 2018 – Today, Amazon opens “Amazon Storefronts,” a new store with products exclusively from German small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) selling on Amazon. Customers on Amazon.de can find products and offers from German companies and learn more about the people behind these businesses through videos and stories. The new store was launched to offer customers on Amazon.de an easy and comfortable way to buy from SMBs from all 16 German states through the convenient and trusted Amazon experience. At its launch, Amazon Storefronts features over 100,000 products from thousands of German SMBs, including product categories such as toys, groceries, electronics, jewelry, and pet supplies.

“Amazon Storefronts offers a shopping experience for customers looking for products from small merchants, startups, craftspeople, and manufacturers from all over the country”, says Ralf Kleber, Country Manager for Amazon.de. “Amazon first invited businesses to sell on Amazon nearly two decades ago, and today, small and medium-sized businesses are a vital part of Amazon’s large selection and commitment to customers. We’re championing the success of these businesses with this new store and a national advertising campaign featuring a successful Brandenburg artisan business selling to customers in Germany and abroad.”

Amazon Storefronts offers customers:

  • Curated German Collections: Customers will enjoy shopping from more than 25 categories to discover products from German startups, artists and more, including products like liquid display protection for mobile phones, wooden toys and a handmade concrete torch.
  • Storefront of the Week: Each week the store will highlight a fun video featuring a new German business to help introduce the many faces and types of businesses that customers are shopping from on Amazon Storefronts.
  • Meet the Business Owner: Rotating exploratory feature that profiles German SMBs selling on Amazon. At launch, customers can learn and browse more than a dozen businesses that are family-focused, women-owned, sustainable, and innovative.

To find Storefronts from the Amazon.de homepage, customers can click on the rotating banner featuring a German business, or navigate to the store directly at www.amazon.de/storefronts.

To support the launch of the new store, Amazon is unveiling its first-ever national TV commercial featuring real businesses selling on Amazon and with Manufaktur Liebevoll from Erkner near Berlin in the leading role. With tens of thousands of SMBs in Germany selling on Amazon, the ad gives customers a glimpse into one of these businesses. In addition, the ad shows the large variety of small business on Amazon and how Amazon is actually a 'Big collection of Small.' The commercial also shows how Amazon helps businesses get their products to customers all over the world. To help illustrate the growing number of businesses on Amazon, a series of business logos come together at the end of the ad to form the Amazon smile logo. To view the ad, click here.

“Since 2016, we have been selling our personalized gifts through Amazon Handmade in addition to our stationary showroom in Erkner”, say Anja Meffert and Yvi Kersten, artists and managers of Manufaktur Liebevoll. “Amazon has now become one of our most important distribution channels. We have been able to hire new team members from our local area, including for both full-time and part-time jobs, and expand our product range. We still have so many ideas for new products that we want to implement bit by bit”.

Half of all products sold globally on Amazon come from small and medium-sized businesses. In 2017, German SMBs selling their products through the Amazon Marketplace achieved record export sales of more than 2.1 billion euros. More than 70 percent already export their products to customers all over the world. According to a study by the business consultancy Keystone, German SMBs employ more than 75,000 people to support their sales on Amazon.
