Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced today the opening of an office in Dubai on January 1, 2017. After working closely with the Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI), the office will be launched to support organisations of all sizes, from startups to government institutions and some of the Middle East’s historic and most established enterprises, as they make the transition to the AWS Cloud. We also have resources for customers in the Middle East looking to learn more about working with us.

The new office will provide account managers, solutions architects, partner managers, professional services consultants, support staff, and various other functions, a way for customers to directly engage with AWS in their local setting and in their language. It is further evidence of the growth of AWS around the world and continued investment in helping organisations everywhere accelerate their move to the cloud.

As well as AWS staff, customers in the Middle East have access to programmes such as AWS Activate, designed to provide startups with the resources they need to get started on AWS. Another programme is AWS Educate, Amazon’s global initiative to provide students and educators with the resources needed to accelerate cloud-related learning endeavors. With the new office we are also growing the AWS training and certification programme in the Middle East. This helps technologists to develop the skills to design, deploy, and operate infrastructure and applications on the AWS cloud. We will be bringing large scale training events, such as AWSome Days, to the region as well as staff to help in training customers on their AWS cloud journey.

Middle Eastern organisations were amongst the earliest adopters of cloud services when AWS launched in 2006. Customers based in the region are using AWS to run everything from development and test environments to Big Data analytics, from mobile, web and social applications to enterprise business applications and mission critical workloads. AWS counts some of the UAE’s most well-known and fastest growing businesses as customers, including Dubizzle, PayFort and Careem, as well as government institutions and some of the largest companies in the Middle East, such as flydubai, Souq.com and Middle East Broadcasting Center.

AWS also has a growing network of technology and consulting AWS Partner Network (APN) Partners in the region helping customers get the most from the cloud. These range from global organizations like CSC as well as prominent regional players like Redington.

This announcement continues Amazon’s investment in, and expansion across, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 2015, Amazon created over 10,000 new jobs in that region.
