Luxemburg – May 2019 – Amazon will open a new delivery station in Trapagaran this summer and will work with two independent delivery companies to provide the fast and reliable delivery Amazon customers love and trust.

Amazon Logistics is helping independent delivery companies to grow their businesses and adds capacity and flexibility to Amazon’s delivery network to meet increasing customer demand.

Packages will be shipped to the delivery station from Amazon fulfilment and sortation centers and loaded onto vehicles to be delivered to customers.

Amazon will create more than 50 jobs at the 8,000 sq. m delivery station. In addition, the independent delivery companies will hire more than 60 drivers who will collect parcels from the delivery station and deliver them to Amazon customers in the Bilbao area.

“We are excited to open a delivery station in Trapagaran where Amazon’s 20+ years of operational expertise, technology advancements and investment to add capacity and flexibility to our delivery network, enabling faster delivery for customers than ever before,” said John Tagawa, VP EU Amazon.

Amazon continues to invest in its logistics infrastructure and other innovative ways to expand its supply chain capacity and speed up deliveries for customers.

Investing in Spain
Amazon’s fulfilment network in Spain started with the San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) Fulfilment Centre, which started operations in 2012 –a year after the launch of Amazon.es–. Over the last seven years, the company has opened three other fulfilment centres located in the Barcelona area, in El Prat, Martorelles and Castellbisbal, as well as one in Getafe (Madrid) and the latest one in Illescas (Toledo). Furthermore, Amazon is operating two urban fulfilment centres in Madrid and Barcelona to provide ultra-fast deliveries to its Prime customers in these cities through its Prime Now service; as well as the eight delivery stations located across the country to strengthen delivery services for customers and sellers.

On top of these investments in its European logistics network located in Spain, Amazon opened its corporate offices in Spain in 2012 and in 2016 selected Madrid to set a development centre in South Europe. The more than 100 engineers working at the Madrid development centre develop customer-facing features and other services for its five European websites. On October 2017, Amazon opened a new head corporate office in Madrid, in the heart of the emerging business district of Méndez Álvaro, that provides space for more of than 1,000 corporate employees. On April 2018, the company opened in Barcelona its Seller Support Hub, a multilingual team dedicated to assist small businesses from France, Italy and Spain selling on Amazon, as well as a new research and development centre focused on Machine Learning. Over time, Amazon expects to hire more than 100 scientists and software engineers at this development centre.
