Amazon’s presence in Romania

Since opening our first office in Romania in 2005, we have expanded to over 4,000 employees across three cities: Iași, Bucharest and Timișoara.

In June 2023, our Ring, Product Safety & Compliance, Global Solutions & Risk Compliance teams moved into a beautiful brand-new office in Timișoara, Romania's third largest city, marking another important milestone in Amazon’s investment in Romania. Romania has a special meaning for Ring, an Amazon company, that had employees in Timisoara since 2019. The local team supports on priority projects as Ring works to reimagine home security, bringing customers innovative solutions that provide peace of mind in and outside the home. Ring’s mission is to make neighborhoods safer. Their devices, from Ring Video Doorbell to Ring Security Cameras, help extend the capabilities of traditional security options, by connecting security and smart devices from all over the home together.

Our development center in Bucharest first opened in 2017, and is home to Speech and Language Solutions for Alexa, Alexa Product Testing, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) teams working on key technologies for the Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2) service.

We are aware of our social responsibility as a company, especially in the local communities where our employees live and work.

Our main charitable partner in Romania is Fundatia Comunitaria Iasi, with whom we have partnered since 2014 to support local community projects, focused especially on education and environmental issues.

In partnership with Fundatia Comunitaria Iasi, we have also provided humanitarian relief to Ukrainian refugees. So far, Amazon has donated over $1.3 million to Romanian and Moldovan charities supporting war relief efforts. We also continue to make product donations—from hygiene products and medical supplies to snacks and clothing.

We're happy to continue expanding our presence in the country and to have secured a new home in Iasi, which was our first technology hub in Eastern Europe. The new office in Palas Campus mirrors our constant improvement to make every day better for our employees, customers, and partners.
