Transitioning from the military to civilian life is not always an easy task, but Esteve Ferran decided to take a chance.

“After 14 years in the Spanish Air Force I felt it was time to leave my comfort zone, to search for new challenges. Amazon crossed my path and I decided it could be an excellent fit for my skills and background”.

Esteve began his journey at Amazon a year and half ago as an Area Manager at DMA8, a delivery station in Getafe, near Madrid. From there he transitioned to his current job as an Area Manager at MAD8, a sortation center near Madrid. In his day to day, he leads a team of over 200 people. He makes sure they work in a safe environment and that packages with customer orders flow through the site efficiently.

“I think joining Amazon was a great decision. I see my life here, taking advantage of all the opportunities the company offers to grow both personally and professionally”.

Born in Salou, 100 kilometers south of Barcelona, he is the oldest brother of four siblings and has dual nationality because his mother is French. In the Spanish Air Force, he flew military fighter jets and was a test pilot, but he was also deployed in Africa, working in a European Union military mission.

His wife Fátima is also a military fighter pilot and they have three children who are 1, 3 and 5 years old. “My wife and I both work and we have three kids, so yes, we need to do some scheduling adjustments to take care of our family but we manage perfectly. Amazon is a company that is very respectful of our family life so I have a good work-life balance”.

“To somebody who is thinking of joining Amazon I would tell them to join us and start the adventure. Here, every day is Day One. Every day you feel the excitement of working to find ways to improve our customer experience or the delivery speed or our safety procedures. I would tell them to join, that there’s a place for everyone here at Amazon”.
