Amazon plans to grow its Italian-based workforce from 3,500 today to over 5,200 during 2018

Company on track to exceed 600 corporate office roles in Milan

Amazon Development Centre in Turin open and hiring further researcher in the field of speech recognition and natural language understanding

Milan – 9 July 2018 – Amazon today announced that it will create 1,700 permanent jobs in Italy during the year in a move that will take the company’s total workforce to over 5,200, up from 3,500 at the end of 2017. These new job opportunities are for people with all types of experience, education and skill levels—from engineers and software developers to those seeking entry-level positions. Many of the roles will be in the new fulfillment centers that have been opened in autumn 2017 in Passo Corese (RI) and in Vercelli as well as in Amazon’s existing fulfillment center in Castel San Giovanni, the Customer Service center in Cagliari and the company’s new corporate offices in Milan. Amazon has invested over 1.6 billion Euros in its Italian operations since 2010.

Corporate office - Milan
Amazon recently moved to the new corporate office in Milan that will host more than 600 permanent employees by the end of the year. The new facilities – 15 floors, 17,500 sm in the heart of Porta Nuova District – provide a great setting to support continued growth. There is a wide range of corporate and AWS roles available, from vendor managers and cloud specialists to account managers helping small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to increase their sales on Amazon; as well as engineers, solution architects, tech evangelists and many others.

Development Center – Turin
Amazon is also continuing to hire for its Italian Development Center in Turin dedicated to advancements in speech recognition and natural language understanding for Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service behind Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Fire tablets.

Operations across Italy
After opening two new fulfillment centers in Passo Corese and Vercelli and five delivery stations across Italy in 2017, Amazon opened this year three new delivery stations in Buccinasco (Milan), Burago (Monza e Brianza), Roma and will open a new Sortation center in Casirate (Bergamo). In addition to recruiting for operations managers, engineers, HR, IT specialists and roles that pick, pack and ship customer orders, the company is also hiring for skilled positions for the Tech Center in Vercelli focused on technology aspects for our Fulfillment Centers.

Investing in Italy

Amazon has invested more than €1.6 billion and has created more than 3,500 jobs in Italy since its opening in 2010. The Castel San Giovanni fulfillment center, Amazon’s first logistics site in Italy, opened in 2011. In November 2015 Amazon opened its 1,500 sqm Urban Fulfillment in Milan to serve Amazon Prime Now customers. In September 2017, Amazon new fulfillment centers of Passo Corese (RI) and Vercelli started operations: Amazon invested respectively €150 million and €65 million in the two facilities, creating 1,200 new jobs at Passo Corese and 600 jobs at Vercelli within three years from launch to further support the increases in customer demand and accommodate the fast growth of Amazon product catalog. Over the last two years, Amazon launched also one sortation center in Castel San Giovanni and eleven delivery stations in Avigliana (TO), Buccinasco (MI), Burago (MB), Roma Magliana, Origgio (VA), Rogoredo (MI), Crespellano (BO), Calenzano (FI), Vigonza (PD), Pomezia (RM) and Fiano Romano (RM).

On top of these investments in its Italian logistics network, Amazon opened its Italian Customer service center in Cagliari in 2012. The Milanese corporate office was opened in 2012 as well.
