Amazon’s Development Centre in Turin more than doubled its employees in less than a year.
Growing network of Fulfilment, Sortation Centers and Delivery Stations across the country is expanding, leading to new job opportunities for managers and entry-level positions.
Milan – July 2, 2019 – Amazon today announced that it will create 1,000 permanent jobs in Italy by the end of 2019, in a move that will take the company’s total workforce to over 6,500. These new job opportunities are for people with all types of experience, education and skill levels — from engineers and software developers, to logistics and marketing experts.
Many new roles will also be available at Amazon’s new fulfillment center that opened yesterday in Torrazza Piemonte (Turin) and at its Delivery Stations across the country. Additional roles will be available at Amazon’s existing fulfillment centers in Castel San Giovanni (PC), Passo Corese (RI) and Vercelli, at its sortation center in Casirate d’Adda (BG), at its Customer Service center in Cagliari, and at the company’s corporate offices in Milan.
Mariangela Marseglia, Amazon Country Manager in Italy and Spain, said: “Our investments in Italy are increasing at a fast pace and we’re thrilled to be creating great new jobs across the country. These 1,000 new employees will support us in further improving the customer experience – offering wide selection, low prices and fast delivery for both Amazon products and for products sold by the thousands of Italian SMEs and artisans who rely on Amazon to expand their sales in Italy and abroad. To reach these goals, we are committed to investing in an even broader logistics infrastructure, and to finding talent for our many different businesses, including research and development. We know it’s still at Day 1 and this drives us to multiply our efforts to keep inventing for Italian customers and small businesses.”
Milan - Corporate office and AWS
On October 4th, 2017, Amazon Italy moved to its new corporate offices in Milan. The new facility – 15 floors, 17,500 sq m in the heart of Porta Nuova District – will host more than 650 permanent employees by the end of the year. There is a wide range of corporate roles available, from vendor managers to account managers helping small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to increase their sales on Amazon, in addition to business development managers, advertising specialists and many others.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is also contributing to the growth in 2019 and a further increase will take place in early 2020, when an infrastructure region will be opened in Italy. New roles open in AWS include account managers, business development managers, data center technicians, partner development managers, solutions architects, software development engineers, support engineers, systems development engineers, and many others. AWS has been continually expanding its services to support virtually any cloud workload, and it now has over 165 fully featured services for compute, storage, databases, networking, analytics, robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), mobile, security, hybrid, virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), media, and application development, deployment, and management. The new AWS Milan infrastructure Region will also enable Italian customers to securely run workloads and store data in Italy and serve end-users with even lower latency.
Turin - Development Center
Amazon will also more than double the number of employees of its Italian Development Center in Turin, including professionals dedicated to advancements in speech recognition and natural language understanding for Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service behind Amazon Echo devices, Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Fire tablets.
Operations across Italy
After opening three delivery stations across Italy in 2018 in Buccinasco (Milan), Burago (Monza e Brianza) and Rome, this year Amazon opened a new fulfillment center in Torrazza Piemonte and new delivery stations in Arzano (Naples), Verona and Settecamini (Rome).
Fred Pattje, Amazon Operations Director for Italy, Spain and France said: “Amazon is committed to bringing technological innovations to its logistics network to improve the service to Italian customers and to provide an optimal working environment for its employees. Focusing on innovation is a core principle in every new service and structure: this is why Amazon is searching for talents in the operations field who look forward to new challenges and are passionate about learning”.
All permanent Amazon employees, whether they work in the company’s Italian operations sites or corporate offices, receive competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package, including life and disability insurance, and employee discounts. Salaried employees receive private medical insurance on top of the above. Amazon also offers fulfillment center and customer service associates an innovative program called Career Choice that provides funding for adult education, offering to pre-pay 95% of tuition and associated fees for nationally recognized, in-demand courses, for a maximum of €8,000 over four years.
Amazon was selected this year by Universum as one of the “Most Attractive Employers in Italy.” Over 40,400 students from 44 different Italian universities ranked Amazon 4th as the best company for business students, among all Italian companies, 6th for engineering students. Amazon got the podium in the Innovation Index: a metric created to monitor how companies are associated with innovation, both in terms of offer to customers and as a work environment where employees can adopt new technologies in everyday working life.
Alongside the new permanent roles that the company is creating, Amazon continues to empower entrepreneurs and individuals who want to start their business, digitize an existing one or earn extra money to supplement their incomes through different programs: Selling on Amazon and FBA. More than 10,000 jobs are supported by third party businesses selling on Amazon.
