Spain, December 2 2020 – Amazon has launched an innovative Apprenticeship Program to look for Engineering and Electronics’ students who want to join the team and work as future RME (Reliability, Maintenance and Engineering) technicians within Amazon Customer Fulfillment network in Spain.
Launched this July in Spain, the program is focused on students who have completed their vocational training studies in middle or higher grade in the specialties of Mechatronics and Electro-mechanics (preferably), but also similar as automation and robotics, industrial electronics, etc. Current participants will be trained for the role of RME Technician, including theoretical and practical lessons to be carried out both internally and with external trainers. In addition, participants will also carry out on-the-job training activities in which they will be supported by Amazon RME technicians in the role of coach.
All courses and face-to-face practices, inside and outside Amazon's facilities, are carried out taking into account the latest health and safety measures. In fact, since the COVID-19 pandemic began in Spain, we have implemented more than 150 important changes in the operational processes in all our centers, including daily temperature checks, the implementation of the social safety distance and the delivery of masks and disinfectant gels. In Spain alone, we have ordered more than 6 million pairs of gloves, more than 3 million units of masks, more than 16 million disinfectant wipes and more than half a million hand disinfectants.

Among the topics to be addressed during the course, there are: Theoretical principles and language; Technologies (numerical control machine tools, robots, sensors); Work planning and organization; Regulations and safety procedures; Design, construction and installation of Mechatronic systems; Programming and testing of Mechatronic systems; Analysis and troubleshooting; Maintenance in the industrial electrical, electronic, pneumatic / hydraulic, mechanical and electro-mechanical fields.

Amazon’s Operations network in Spain started with the San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) fulfillment center, which started operations in 2012 – a year after the launch of Amazon.es. Over the last seven years, the company has opened so far six fulfillment centers located in El Prat (Barcelona), Martorelles (Barcelona), Castellbisbal (Barcelona), Illescas (Toledo), Dos Hermanas (Seville) and Alcalá de Henares (Madrid). In addition, Amazon also has two urban fulfillment centers in Madrid and Barcelona, which provide ultra-fast deliveries to its Prime customers in these cities through the Prime Now service. In addition, the company has two sortation centers, located in Getafe (Madrid) and Barberá del Vallés (Barcelona), and 14 delivery stations located throughout the country to strengthen their delivery services for the benefit of customers and sellers.
Since 2011, Amazon has invested in Spain 2.9 billion Euros on infrastructure, shipments, salaries and benefits for employees, among others. Investments include two Software Development Centers (Tech Hubs) in Madrid and Barcelona that employ more than 300 engineers, software developers, data scientists, machine learning experts and cloud experts. In 2020, around 2,000 new jobs will be created in Spain, increasing its workforce to 9,000 permanent jobs in Spain.
