MADRID, 14 January 2021 – Amazon announced today that in 2020 it created 5,000 new jobs, bringing its current permanent workforce in Spain to 12,000 employees. These new roles are for workers of all backgrounds and education levels, including entry-level positions in operations, software developers and engineers, business and account managers, data scientists and machine-learning professionals, as well as cloud experts and solution architects working at Amazon Web Services.

Amazon´s current network in Spain encompasses more than 28 different sites. In 2020 alone, the company opened two new fulfillment centers in Dos Hermanas (Seville) and Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), as well as three delivery stations in Murcia, Rubí (Barcelona) and Leganés (Madrid). Amazon is also expanding its rapidly growing Madrid Tech hub where over 400 software developers and computer engineers are working on applications for Amazon Business, Kindle technologies and retail. Amazon Web Services will open a new AWS Europe Region (Spain) which will be operational by end 2022 or early 2023.
In addition to the permanent workforce, Amazon hired 7,000 people to reinforce its logistics operations all across the country during the last festive season. To recognize the work of all its frontline employees, permanent and temporary operations employees who were with the company from December 1 to December 31 qualify for a bonus of 300 EUR for those working full-time and a prorated bonus for those working part time.
In addition to all these hires, a recent study commissioned by Amazon to the strategy and economic consulting firm Keystone estimates that companies in its supply chain, including, for example, building, property and professional services, generated an additional 82,000 jobs by end 2019. That also includes the more than 14,000 people working for the 9,000 Spanish SMEs currently selling on Amazon.
