To meet customer demand, we expect to create 20,000 jobs by the end of 2020, growing to more than 135,000 our employee population across 15 European countries. You can discover more about the latest jobs figures here.

Matching our jobs growth, we invest heavily in Europe. From 2010-2019, we invested €78 billion on infrastructure, real estate, services, jobs and content.

“2020 has been another big year of both investment and job creation, with 20,000 new positions filled this year in Europe alone. As we come to the end of the year, we are still trying to hire for thousands of positions in operations, software development, business and account management, data science and machine-learning, cloud development and software, solutions architects, and more,” said Amazon’s Vice President for EU Retail, Jorrit Van der Meulen.

Our development centers in over 16 locations across Europe pioneer our innovation, with new or expanded teams in locations like Cambridge, Turin, Barcelona and Berlin. They focus on research and development for Amazon's global customers on topics like Alexa, Machine Learning and Prime Air.

In total, there are now more than 135 sites across Europe, including corporate offices, technology development centers, customer and seller service operations, logistics infrastructure and AWS data center regions.

We also work with more than 900,000 small businesses – from sellers to developers to content creators to delivery providers. Despite the impact COVID-19 has had on many small businesses, 150,000 European-based SMBs working with Amazon have been able to thrive and grow. Of the 150,000 European SMBs selling on our marketplaces, over 75,000 of them exported their products to customers around the world and achieved over €9 billion in export sales.

“Empowering small and medium-sized businesses is at the core of everything we do. We will continue to invest in logistics, tools, and people to support small and medium-sized businesses. Supporting these businesses helps us to create the best shopping experience for our customers” said Francois Saugier, VP EU Seller Services at Amazon. “Despite this challenging period, selling partners have continued to grow with Amazon. When customers shop on our stores, more than 50% of the products they buy are sold by small businesses.”

These small businesses are also creating jobs as a result of Amazon - over 270,000 to date.

We launched a number of programs adapted to each local marketplace to help them start, grow and accelerate their business.

All our employees receive an attractive compensation and benefits package and career progression opportunities from day one. Current openings are on Amazon.jobs Amazon also offers fulfillment center associates an innovative program called Career Choice which provides funding for adult education, offering to pre-pay 95% of tuition and associated fees for nationally recognized, in-demand courses, up to €8,000 over four years.

Amazon in Luxembourg now counts over 2,700 employees situated in our European headquarters and we will add 300 by the end of the year.
