Here's how Amazon is contributing to Ireland's economy
1. We're making significant long-term investments in Ireland
Amazon's commitment to Ireland continues to grow. In 2025 alone, Amazon invested more than €3 billion in Ireland, including the launch of Amazon.ie, as well as infrastructure investments and compensation to our employees. These investments span our fulfilment operations, distribution network, data centres, corporate offices, cutting-edge connectivity infrastructure (such as our “Fastnet” subsea cable) and Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network, Leo. All these projects together reinforce Ireland's position as a key hub for Amazon's European operations. Amazon has also invested in our local community through initiatives with Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), Regional Creatives Fund and various Amazon Community Funds.
2. We're creating jobs and supporting local employment
Amazon employs around 6,500 people across Ireland, with an extended workforce of 10,000 people working in our corporate and operations sites. As our operations grow, so too does the demand for local suppliers, service providers, and skilled workers across the country. As a significant employer in Ireland, we provide a range of roles from entry-level positions to highly-skilled jobs, including operations managers, data engineers, film producers, and finance professionals, through to health and safety specialists and picking, packing, and shipping associates. This, in turn, reflects the diversity of our business in Ireland, which spans Amazon retail, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Prime, Amazon Studios, and Amazon Leo, our satellite broadband network.

Amazon.ie – A dedicated store for Irish customers
In March 2025, we launched Amazon.ie, a dedicated Irish store offering customers access to hundreds of millions of products with fast delivery, easy returns, and local customer service.
Expanding fulfilment capacity in Ireland
Amazon's fulfilment centre in Baldonnell, Dublin, has grown rapidly since opening in 2022. With 200 new jobs created in 2026 alone, the fulfilment centre supports over 700 roles, with plans to hire additional team members this year. Together with delivery stations in Rathcoole and Ballycoolin, the site is enabling wider selection and faster delivery across Ireland seven days a week, including one-day delivery on hundreds of thousands of items.
Amazon Leo satellite gateway in Cork
Amazon is building a satellite gateway facility at the National Space Centre in Cork as part of Amazon Leo (formerly Project Kuiper), a low Earth orbit satellite constellation designed to bring fast, reliable internet beyond the reach of existing networks.
Fastnet: A new transatlantic subsea cable landing in Cork
Amazon is also investing in Fastnet – a state-of-the-art transatlantic subsea fibre-optic cable system connecting County Cork in Ireland to Maryland in the United States. This investment will enhance Ireland's digital connectivity and meet rising demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI).
Amazon South West Cork Community Fund
The first-ever Amazon South West Cork Community Fund is supporting 22 community-led projects with grants of up to €10,000, spanning STEM education, sustainability, health, and community development across the region.
Peatland Finance Initiative
Amazon's Right Now Climate Fund committed €495,000 to develop a new Peatland Standard for Ireland, enabling farmers and landowners to fund restoration projects through verified ecosystem certificates. With 700,000 hectares of degraded peatlands in the country, the initiative has the potential to significantly boost Ireland's climate resilience.
Tackling energy poverty with EnergyCloud
Through a collaboration with not-for-profit EnergyCloud Ireland, Amazon is helping tackle energy poverty by equipping low-income households with smart heating devices that harness surplus wind energy to provide free hot water. Launched in 2023, Amazon has supported over 1,000 homes in Fingal, South Dublin, Galway and Offaly through the initiative.
Supporting the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA)
Amazon supports the GAA through Glór na nÓg (Voice of the Youth), a Community Funding Initiative which delivered €85,000 in funding for training equipment and club improvements across GAA, Ladies Gaelic Football Association, and Camogie clubs nationwide. Amazon is supporting the initiative again in 2026 with a further €100,000 donation.
Regional Creatives Fund Ireland
Amazon launched the Regional Creatives Fund Ireland, offering grants of up to €20,000 to charities helping people from underrepresented backgrounds pursue creative careers. Inaugural recipients include Cork Midsummer Festival and the Galway Film Fleadh.
Amazon Literary Partnership
Now in its seventh year, the Amazon Literary Partnership continues to provide grants to literary organisations that inspire and champion writers across Ireland and the UK. In 2024, the partnership expanded to support groups in Ireland for the first time, helping to amplify diverse voices and engage children with expressing themselves through writing.
Data Centre Technician Course at Technical University Dublin
Amazon has collaborated with Technological University Dublin and Drogheda Institute of Further Education to develop a Data Centre Technician programme, preparing participants for technical roles in Ireland's growing data centre sector. The programme which includes paid internship opportunities is designed in conjunction with Amazon experts, and Amazon is providing 40 scholarships each year to allow participants to complete the programme free of fees.
