With the Climate Pledge Friendly, Amazon customers in Poland will now be able to discover over 65,000 products with various sustainability features on amazon.pl, including items made with recycled materials or organic content, safer chemicals, and those which are more energy efficient compared with similar items. These features are based on 41 vetted and reputable third-party certifications that recognise products with improvements in at least one aspect of sustainability, such as the Rainforest Alliance, Fair for Life and the Forest Stewardship Council.
The Climate Pledge Friendly (CPF) programme launched in Poland as a new Amazon-commissioned study of 1,000 Polish shoppers reveals that more than six in ten (67%) respondents prefer to buy products that have a more positive environmental and social impact, although more than half (56%) of those surveyed struggle to identify them. In fact, Polish shoppers find cooking an elaborate dinner party from scratch (50%) and assembling flat-pack furniture (39%) easier than figuring out the environmental impacts of products when shopping. As a result, only one in five (21%) of Polish respondents say they always understand a product’s environmental impact when they shop, and two thirds (67%) of those surveyed want retailers to help them make more sustainable choices when shopping. This ranges from everyday items like socks and sugar, to personal care products like soap and sunscreen.
Multiple product categories are featured within our CPF programme, from beauty and fashion, to pantry, household and personal electronics. For easier identification by customers, eligible products have a ‘sustainable features’ link, helping customers learn more about the product from a sustainability point of view – which can include production processes, provenance or packaging - when shopping on the Amazon Poland store: amazon.pl/climatepledgefriendly.
"Amazon strives to be a beacon of clarity for customers by taking the guesswork out of the shopping experience, transparently highlighting a range of sustainability features in products," said Katarzyna Ciechanowska-Ciosk, Country Manager, Amazon, Poland.
Certifications matter to Polish shoppers, with 83% of those surveyed saying they are more likely to trust a product’s sustainability claims if they’re supported by an official certification from a reputable organisation. 60% of Polish shoppers admitted to have abandoned a purchase when they did not trust or understand its sustainability claims.
Seven in ten (78%) claim they are more likely to favour a new brand or product if their social, ethical and environmental credentials are clear on the item itself, or at the point of sale online, giving them reassurance these brands align with their principles.
In 2023, our CPF product selection grew to more than 1.4 million items globally – a 157% increase from 2022. More than 60 million Amazon customers globally have switched to a CPF product from their usual brand purchases – sending a strong message to our selling partners that customers want to shop for products with sustainability features.
Among the most sought-after sustainability features that Polish shoppers look for are water efficiency (39%), use of recyclable packaging (39%), and products made with recycled materials (36%), according to the survey. Our CPF programme makes it easier for customers to find products that are aligned with these features.
The top five product categories that Polish shoppers expect to find more sustainable options for include food and beverage items (51%), cosmetics and beauty (46%), apparel (46%), cleaning products (42%), and electronics and appliances (37%).
