With the UK facing unprecedented challenges in the fight against COVID-19, we are fortunate to have found ourselves in a position to help. From delivering testing kits to donating healthy breakfasts and care packages, here are some of the ways in which we have stepped up, putting our logistics network and expertise in service of UK communities, families and healthcare organizations.
We are proud to continue supporting the UK Government’s testing program by distributing testing kits to homes around the UK, ensuring that those who are unable to reach a testing site can still get tested. So far, we have delivered 2 million COVID-19 testing kits, free of charge.
Furthermore, we have expanded our long-standing collaboration with Magic Breakfast in the UK, to ensure that vulnerable children have access to healthy breakfasts – the fuel their young minds and bodies need to make the most of their morning lessons. Magic breakfast is a charity that provides free school breakfasts to children in the UK. Under normal circumstances, children would receive the free breakfasts provided by the charity at school. With schools closed due to COVID-19, Magic Breakfast has adapted its distribution model, with Amazon’s help, to ensure children can continue enjoying their free meals at home. Since April, we have delivered for free over 800,000 breakfasts to children all over the UK.
We also want to show our appreciation for the NHS staff and all ancillary workers like cleaners, porters and security guards who are providing essential services to patients in COVID-19 hotspots in the UK. Our Treasure Truck team, in partnership with Amazon’s vendors and sellers who have generously donated their products, has developed special care and well-being kits for front-line workers: a small token of gratitude to remind them to rest, recharge and take care of their own well-being during this difficult time. Each box contains snacks, a skincare product and an entertainment item, something to help take the mind off the demands of the day. 50,000 care boxes have been distributed to hospitals and care homes across the nation since May.
We are proud to help, and we will continue supporting the fight against the virus. We are all in this together.
