Every year, thousands of policymakers, elected officials and community leaders visit Amazon fulfilment centres across Europe. We welcome them because we believe the best way to understand how Amazon operates – and what it’s like to work here – is to see it first hand.
An open invitation
Since we began offering public tours in 2019, more than 180,000 people have visited our sites across the EU. Last year alone, we hosted almost 2,000 policymakers, from members of national parliaments and MEPs to regional mayors and labour inspectors.
The format is straightforward: a briefing on the site and its role in our network, a guided tour of the shop floor, and an open conversation with site leaders and employees. We hope this gives them to have an accurate picture of work at Amazon and the quality jobs we create. Good policy starts with good information, and that is best built on firsthand experience rather than assumptions.
What visitors see at an Amazon fulfilment centre
A typical visit takes guests through the full journey of a customer order, from the moment a product arrives at a fulfilment centre to the point it is packed and shipped. Along the way, visitors see:
- Employees and technology working side by side. Robotics systems bring products directly to employees, reducing walking distances. Automated packing stations create custom-fit paper bags using only the material needed – faster, smarter, and more sustainable.
- A diverse, multilingual workforce. Our fulfilment centres in Europe employ people from dozens of nationalities – at some sites, it’s nearly 100. Visitors regularly tell us they are struck by the diversity of our teams.
- Safety in practice. From climate-controlled environments and ergonomic workstation design to daily safety audits and on-site first-aid teams, visitors can see how our safety standards translate from policy into day-to-day operations.
- Investment in people. Programmes like Career Choice, which provides employees with thousands of euros per year for education and skills training, are not just numbers on a page. Visitors meet employees who have used the programme to train as IT specialists, nurses, language teachers, and more.
Amazon's commitment in Europe
Amazon employs more than 150,000 people across 21 EU countries and has been certified as a Top Employer in Europe for the fourth consecutive year. Since 2010, we have invested more than €225 billion across the EU in logistics infrastructure, technology, renewable energy, and above all in people.
We are proud of the working environment we have built, and we welcome opportunities to show it to visitors. If you are a policymaker or elected official and would like to visit one of our sites, we would be glad to hear from you. In addition to fulfilment centre visits, we regularly host visitors at sortation centres and delivery stations, as well as corporate offices and research & development centres.
