A group of Portuguese small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) recently toured Amazon's fulfilment centre (FC) in Illescas, Spain, gaining firsthand insights into how our logistics network can help grow their businesses internationally. This marks the second event organised for Portuguese sellers, following a first tour in 2024.

More than 1,000 Portuguese SMEs have started selling on Amazon, collectively achieving over €145 million in exports. The main destinations being Spain, France, Germany, the U.S., and the UK. To enhance seller and customer experiences, Amazon has localized key platforms for the Portuguese market, including Amazon.es, sell.amazon.es, Seller Central, and Seller University.

Growing with Amazon's logistics network

During the tour, participants learned how Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) enables businesses to store their products in our FCs: where we handle storage, packing, and delivery to customers. This service allows Portuguese businesses to reach Prime customers across multiple countries while focusing on growing their business.

"The advantage of Amazon is that any company, regardless of its size, can use Amazon as an online sales channel to have access to millions of customers across Europe," explains Inês Ruvina, Amazon’s Country Lead in Portugal. "More than 60% of the units sold on Amazon come from independent Sellers, most of whom are SMEs".

"We were very focused on the Portuguese market, but with Amazon we were able to diversify our sales across Europe and drastically increase our annual revenue," shares Nélio Coelho, Manager Partner from iMUDA Telecommunications.

Supporting Portuguese businesses

Since 2020, Amazon has maintained a dedicated team focused on improving the selling experience for Portuguese businesses. The launch of Prime in Portugal in 2021 marked another milestone, offering Portuguese customers benefits including fast and free delivery, Prime Video, Amazon Photos, access to free video games with Amazon Luna, and exclusive deals.

Customers can explore a dedicated Portuguese Brands Store on Amazon.es featuring a curated selection of Portuguese Brands and products. Making it easier for customers to discover and purchase Portuguese products.

The success of Portuguese SMEs selling on Amazon demonstrates the potential for local businesses to reach international customers. Through events like this facility tour and ongoing support from our dedicated teams, we continue working with Portuguese SMEs to help them reach their full potential.
