Since setting up its first office in the Grund in Luxembourg city in 2003, Amazon has become a substantial local contributor to Luxembourg’s economy, generating thousands of high-quality jobs at the cutting edge of technology and ecommerce. Amazon has boosted the local economy and created new opportunities for the community, which extend far beyond direct employment.
“Amazon's presence in Luxembourg reflects our long-term confidence in this country as a strategic hub for European operations,” says Mariangela Marseglia, Vice President, Amazon European Stores. “In 2025, we invested more than €1.9 billion in Luxembourg, building on the more than €1.8 billion invested in 2024. It is remarkable to see how Luxembourg consistently delivers what matters most: exceptional talent, sound governance, and an environment where ambition translates into results.”
In 2025, Amazon invested more than €1.9 billion in Luxembourg, including infrastructure and employee compensation. According to estimates made by the economic consultancy Keystone Strategy, this has contributed an additional €750+ million to Luxembourg’s GDP, supporting an estimated 5,000+ indirect jobs and 1,500+ induced jobs, in areas like construction, logistics, and professional services.
From Luxembourg to the world: Amazon’s investments and multi-billion contributions to Luxembourg’s GDP
Over more than two decades, the company has grown its presence, with cumulative investment since 2010 now exceeding €13 billion. And from 2015 to 2025, Amazon has invested more than €12 billion in Luxembourg and contributed over €4 billion to the country’s GDP. The scale of this commitment in 2025 - €1.9 billion invested in one year - is higher than the 2025 budget of the City of Luxembourg (~€1.25 billion). For every euro invested, Amazon contributes an estimated €0.73 in GDP. To put this into perspective, this is more than the GDP contribution of the agriculture sector in Luxembourg.
As noted by Antonio Fatas, Professor of Economics at INSEAD and Keystone Strategy partner: "The Luxembourg economy, and the EU economy at large, have been dealing with sluggish growth in the recent past. Governments understand the need to boost investment in particular in areas that can sustain activity and improve competitiveness and productivity. Keystone’s report shows that Amazon has been consistently investing in Luxembourg for more than two decades (with an estimated €4 billion contribution to Luxembourg’s GDP over the last decade). This investment is likely to drive further investment and job opportunities in the local economy while it also produces externalities on companies and sectors that rely on the services and infrastructure offered by Amazon. Luxembourg’s regulatory environment, talent infrastructure, and strategic positioning continue to be attractive to businesses, as demonstrated by Amazon’s investment.”
Amazon’s presence has built a foundation of economic activity that surpasses Amazon’s own operations. Investment at this level, maintained year after year, supports supply chains, stimulates local spending, and creates conditions for employment across a range of sectors, including logistics, cloud computing and satellite development. Luxembourg remains a cornerstone of Amazon’s European operations.

In 2025, the company had more than 4,250 permanent employees representing over 100 nationalities and an extended workforce of hundreds of people working in our eight corporate sites. Amazon offers roles across a wide range of fields: from artificial intelligence, satellite internet development, and logistics, to creatives and marketers for Alexa+, Amazon devices, solution architects and cloud operation engineers at AWS, and many other functions that reflect the breadth of the company’s operations in Luxembourg. “2025 was a year of change for our workforce”, says Mariangela Marseglia. “Yet, our employment numbers remain stable. We continue hiring and investing in strategic areas and functions that are mission critical: from data science to artificial intelligence, cloud computing and software development. So much opportunity still lies ahead of us.”
Looking beyond investment: Serving the local community
Amazon’s impact in Luxembourg goes further than its economic contributions. Serving the needs of the community where employees live is a critical priority for the company, but also for employees who engage in causes that they care about.
Over the years, this has led to strong partnerships with several community organizations in Luxembourg, including the Luxembourg Red Cross, Stëmm vun der Strooss, and Digital Inclusion. In practice, this has amounted to Amazon donating more than €330,000 to the Luxembourg Red Cross through late 2025, including €90,000 in medical supplies for Ukraine relief and thousands of backpacks and hygiene kits for vulnerable communities. The company has also donated over 2,000 laptops to Digital Inclusion and brought critical goods to the homeless shelter Stëmm vun der Strooss, which included 2,000 hygiene kits and 500 bags with school materials. Internal employee-led clothes donation drive generated a significant volume of collected items in late 2025.
Michael Simonis, General Director, Luxembourg Red Cross, noted: “The partnership between the Luxembourg Red Cross and Amazon reflects a shared belief that corporate engagement can make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Through donations exceeding €330,000 through late 2025, including €90,000 in medical supplies for Ukraine relief and thousands of backpacks and hygiene kits for vulnerable communities, Amazon has consistently shown up where it matters most. This is not a one-off gesture. It is a sustained commitment that has helped us extend our reach to those who need it, both here, in Luxembourg, and beyond our borders.”
Alexandra Oxacelay, Director, Stëmm vun der Strooss, explains: “Luxembourg is not immune to the global trend of homelessness and growing poverty risk. At Stëmm our goal is to meet that need, raise visibility for it and engage the community to help those who need it most. Amazon’s support has been invaluable in this regard. Throughout 2025, they have donated 2,000 hygiene Kits, 500 bags with school materials, and other in-kind donations like clothes from internal clothes donation drives. Their long-term and committed partnership has made a huge difference in the lives of thousands of people, giving them dignity and help they truly need.”
Patrick de La Hamette, Digital Inclusion A.s.b.l. Director states: “At Digital Inclusion, our mission is to ensure everyone in Luxembourg has access to information technology and computing. The donation of over 2,000 laptops from Amazon has been transformative for the communities we serve. For households that could otherwise not afford a personal computer, receiving a laptop means children can do their homework, parents can access public services, residents in need and refugees can take their first steps toward labour market integration through digital upskilling programmes.”
Most recently, an employee led group made up of women engineers, played a key role in the inaugural Young Women’s Conference, where they engaged with up to 420 young students bringing STEM subjects to life.
