These investments contribute to Amazon's plan to invest more than €15 billion in France by 2028, bringing total new permanent jobs to more than 8,000.
Investing in France's regions
These new sites will bring quality employment, local business opportunities, and tax revenues to the communities where Amazon operates. The impact of Amazon's latest fulfillment center in Augny (near Metz) illustrates this: 4,000 jobs created in one year, making Amazon the leading private employer in Moselle, with €2.5 million in local tax contributions in 2023 alone.
Amazon's presence also supports thousands of local SMEs selling on Amazon.fr - providing them access to millions of French and European customers. More than 60% of products sold on Amazon come from third-party sellers, the majority of which are SMEs.
"Amazon continues to choose France - and France's regions" says Jean-Baptiste Thomas, Amazon's Country Manager in France. "Today's announcement builds on the €15 billion investment roadmap we unveiled in May, the largest commitment in our 26-year history in France. These new investments reflect our confidence in the economic potential of French territories. By building sites closer to consumption areas, we create quality jobs locally, shorten delivery distances, reduce our environmental footprint, and contribute directly to regional economic vitality."
Creating quality jobs accessible to all
Amazon's model recruits on potential, not diplomas. The 8,000+ new permanent roles will be open to candidates of all backgrounds - no degree required for logistics agents positions in our operations, with training from day one. For these roles, starting gross wages exceed €2,000/month, rising to over €2,500 after two years (including 13th month and annual incentive) - nearly 40% above minimum wage. With 400+ different roles, Amazon offers diverse career paths in robotics, mechatronics, maintenance, data, safety, HR, and management.
Since 2021, more than 5,500 logistics employees have benefited from company-supported training through initiatives including l'École Amazon and the Career Choice program. Amazon will invest €50 million by 2030 in training and skills development in France. The integration of AI and robotics also improves employee well-being — reducing repetitive motions, long-distance walking, and heavy lifting.
Building a logistics model that benefits the climate
Amazon's investment in French regions also serves its environmental commitments. By building its network closer to customers, Amazon reduces delivery distances and associated emissions - a proximity-based logistics model leveraging more than 35 sites across France.
At Augny, this approach cut average package travel distance by 25%, eliminating 81 grams of CO₂ per package. Amazon is also decarbonizing its logistics through rail and intermodal transport, and low-carbon last-mile solutions - in 20+ French cities, over two-thirds of packages are delivered by electric vehicles, cargo bikes, or on foot.
