Amazon today announced a milestone of 100 million deliveries in Europe, completed using electric cargo bikes, electric mopeds and push carts for on-foot deliveries. This milestone demonstrates the company's ongoing investment in customer delivery methods that reduce emissions, noise, and traffic congestion in urban neighbourhoods.

Since launching the first electric cargo bike delivery in Strasbourg, France in 2017, Amazon has expanded the fleet of small electric vehicles and push carts to more than 70 micromobility hubs across more than 50 European cities spread across France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. The fleet now delivers packages in city centres and residential areas where traditional delivery vehicles face challenges, including historic areas.

“Our growing number of micromobility hubs represent the future of urban delivery,” said Andreas Marschner, Amazon’s Vice President of Worldwide Sustainable Operations. “Smaller electric vehicles and push carts allow our delivery partners to maintain a fast, reliable service while significantly reducing our environmental impact in the communities we serve.”

Quieter streets, cleaner air

Electric cargo bikes, electric mopeds and push carts produce zero-exhaust emissions and significantly reduce noise pollution compared to traditional delivery vans. In cities with historic centres and limited traffic zones, the vehicles can navigate narrow streets and pedestrian areas that larger vehicles can’t reach, ensuring residents receive fast deliveries while respecting the character of their neighbourhoods.

Looking Ahead

Amazon continues to work with its delivery partners to expand their fleets of smaller electric vehicles and on-foot deliveries across Europe, with plans to launch 25 additional hubs throughout 2026.

The company is also piloting new delivery technologies and exploring partnerships with local municipalities to further reduce the environmental impact of deliveries to customers.
