Mercedes-Benz Trucks has officially handed over the first 27 battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 to Amazon. By the end of 2026, a total of more than 50 battery-electric trucks of the same type will be operating on German roads for Amazon's transportation network. At the handover, both companies emphasized the importance of high-performance battery-electric trucks for the transformation of road freight transport and the development of a more sustainable transportation network in Germany.
The story behind Amazon's largest-ever electric truck order
In early 2025, Amazon and Mercedes-Benz Trucks signed a contract for more than 200 battery-electric trucks of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 type – Amazon's largest-ever order of electric trucks.
In the United Kingdom, where the majority of the fleet is being deployed, Mercedes-Benz Trucks began deliveries of the eActros 600 to Amazon in late 2025.
The eActros 600, the battery-electric flagship for long-haul transport from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, is deployed on so-called middle-mile routes, meaning for the transport of goods between fulfillment centers and urban areas. Thanks to its high installed battery capacity of 621 kWh and an in-house developed, particularly efficient electric drive axle, the eActros 600 has a range of 500 km, making it particularly well suited for these transport routes.
A new milestone for the electrification of Amazon's transportation network
Andreas Marschner, Vice President of Worldwide Sustainable Operations at Amazon, says: "The handover of these vehicles is a milestone for the electrification of our transportation network. Electric solutions have already been widely used for some time in last-mile package delivery to customers. With the high-performance electric trucks from Mercedes-Benz Trucks, we can now make even longer transport routes between fulfillment centers and urban areas more sustainable. This is a true solution for the future."
Stina Fagerman, President Mercedes-Benz Trucks Customer Region Europe, says: "The eActros 600 is manufactured in Wörth am Rhein and was developed for demanding long-haul transport. The fact that Amazon relies on our vehicles underscores the confidence in our technology and also shows that the electrification of heavy-duty transport is increasingly becoming reality. Such partnerships are crucial to further accelerate the transformation of the transport industry."
How Amazon is investing in charging infrastructure and decarbonization
To optimally integrate the new electric trucks into its transportation network, Amazon is installing hundreds of heavy goods vehicle chargers at its European locations, enabling the electric trucks to be charged from 20% to 80% in just over one hour. In total, Amazon is investing more than 1 billion euros in the further electrification and decarbonization of its transportation network in Europe, including more than 400 million euros dedicated to its operations in Germany.
The eActros 600 order is part of Amazon's broad investments in decarbonization in Germany. Since 2021, Amazon has invested up to 4 billion euros in low-carbon technologies – from offshore wind energy to transport electrification to reduced and recyclable packaging. According to an analysis by Frontier Economics commissioned by Amazon, these investments are estimated to have supported up to 36,000 jobs and contributed up to 3 billion euros to German economic output.
